December 5, 2009

Today is a wonderful day in our Boone neighborhood. We are all decorated for Christmas, making Christmas lists for our parents, and we are hanging out with our dogs on a snowy Saturday. It's beautiful. I think that Boone cares more about these roads that we live on than Blowing Rock cared about us off of highway 221. It was intense last year but this year I think that we'll be golden getting in and out in the snow. Here are some pictures of our decorations and our snow covered ground. I'm so ready for Christmas 2009! :)

My Sweet Babies at Merry Land Academy 2009-2010 More At Four Classroom

My class this year consists of Catori, Chadee, Charlize, Ella, Parker, Rachel, Sabrina, Silas, and Wyatt. We have a lot of fun together getting these lovely Pre-K kids ready for Kindergarten. They are going to know all of their letters and the sounds that they make. They are going to know their numbers 1-20 and their shapes. They are going to know all that kindergarteners need to know to be successful. They really are such a smart group of kids that I couldn't have asked for more.

Appalachian Halloween

Halloween in Boone was very exciting this year because WE ACTUALLY HAD TRICK OR TREATERS. I was so happy that I could hardly stand it. Josh decided to be a gangster and I decided to be a leopard. It was a lot of fun because I already had leopard pants, a leopard scarf, leopard gloves, etc. and all that I had to buy was a shirt that was leopard that had a tail on the back, and leopard ears. That was the fun part and of course Wal Mart had exactly what I needed. Josh had a toy gun to go along with his gangster outfit and he would keep it down inside his pants. It was funny! The trick or treaters started coming around 5:00 and they just didn't stop until about 8:30. They pretty much ate all of our candy except for like 5 dum dums that seriously have been in the candy bowl for about 6 months now or maybe even longer so this was alright with us.

One of my students at Merry-Land Academy came by to show us her lovely outfit along with her Mom Jennifer and her Mom's boyfriend Chad. They are such a nice family and I am glad that they decided to make the drive out to us. I was glad to open our home up to them and wish that they would come over more often. :)

After the trick or treaters moved on and probably went to bed at home we had a party at our house. We had decorated up the inside as well as had our jack o lantern on the front porch and the door was decorated also. I had set out some goodies on the counter and several drinks as well. People brought their own drinks but we had soft drinks just in case for those that would be the drivers instead of the drinkers. It was nice! I took pictures of it and I'm going to share those with you. I wish that I had gotten more of everyone else at the party. I am working on getting some of those from others profiles to share with you.
Next year we are definitely going to top these costumes and make it tradition to always decorate for the occassion. :)

Appalachian Homecoming Game- October 10, 2009

Today was a great day. Appalachian won their homecoming game against North Carolina Central University. Kevin, Kyle, and Sarah came to Boone for the occassion and we took some pictures of our fun. Kevin, Kyle, and Sarah should move to Boone and stay with us often. :) Josh and I love it when they come to stay.

Fall Has Come To Boone

Fall weather has come and it has come fast. I can't believe how fast that it went from warm to chilly and now it's just staying chilly. I love the fall. The pretty colors, the fall weather, and the pumpkin smell in the air. I think that it's something that is required of stores to have pumpkin candles burning for customers to smell. I love it! I also am excited about the fall football weather. Sweatshirts and sweatpants are the best! Josh's birthday was September 30th (yesterday) and it was fun celebrating. I spoiled him with gifts and then we went to dinner at a place called Coyote Kitchen which I'm definitely sure that we won't be going back to again in the near future. It was definitely not what we were hoping that it would be. I had a bug in my sandwich and they had to take it back and then replace it with another one. The rating there was an A but I'm thinking what in the world was that about? New shows have started on tv for the fall season such as Grey's Anatomy, HOUSE, and Flash Forward. They are so good. I look forward to the whole season of shows for sure. Something that I've had to make sure that I take care of early is getting a flu shot. I do not want to catch the flu this year. I also want to get the H1N1 vaccine and need to make sure that I don't get those viruses. I hate having fevers and think that it makes me cry every time no matter what I actually have that is making me sick. Let's say prayers.
Last weekend was UNCG homecoming and we had so much fun. Josh and I stayed with Kevin and Myles and apparently 12 other people did too. I am thinking that it was David Ackerman (who we remember well because he kept us up like half the night), Matt Daurelio, Zac Chambers, Sarah Henley, Kyle Curtis, Brendan English, Kevin, and Myles, Matt Moser, a girl that I am not sure what her name is at the moment, Josh, and myself. There were probably more names that I left just because there were so many that I couldn't place them all. Lindsay and John stayed with Katie Vaden or Matt Tedder. It was nice to see Amanda Crouch again because it had been so long since we had hung out. I think that we need to get together more often. It was so crowded but a lot of fun. However all of this, did make me feel my age and realize how much that I love sleep. Here are some pictures of the fun...

First Home App game of the season and Kevin, Kyle, and Sarah's Visit

This past weekend we had Kevin, Kyle, and Sarah come stay at our house. There was a home football game against a school called McNeese State. I thought that this would be a sure win. Well while we were at the game we watched the two teams battle each other touchdown after touchdown. Then in the last final seconds McNeese State won. I couldn't believe it. I was sad! Good thing Kevin, Kyle, and Sarah were in town. After the game we went to eat at Mellow Mushroom and then relaxed at the house all night. We didn't even stay up past 12:30. Everyone was so exhausted. The next morning we woke up and the boys went to the grocery store. What a concept right? It was exciting to not have to be the one looking for the things in the grocery store aisles. Sarah and I stayed at the house and hung out until they got back. Kyle and Josh cooked the breakfast. Kyle is a fabulous chef I might add and we all know that Josh can cook already. Kyle however is a head chef for his job in Greensboro. That's pretty cool! They had to leave so that Kyle could get back to work. Kyle and Sarah were the first ones to get to use our new guest bedroom furniture. That was exciting for us and them of course. Sarah is a great girl. I'm glad to have met her and hope that Kyle and she get married one day. Look at me-marrying someone off again. :)
Homecoming is coming soon- September 26th and we are all so excited. That will be the next time that I'll get to see everyone that I haven't seen in a long time. We didn't get to go to homecoming last year so this will be almost like a 2 year reunion for us and some people. It's been quite a while. Now if we can just keep the sickness away we will be doing well. Here are a few pictures of the new furniture in the bedrooms.

LABOR DAY WEEKEND

This weekend is going to be very exciting. One of my lifelong best friends and bridesmaids is getting married today in Chapel Hill. I have had to do many things around the house to get ready to be able to get going today. I will have pictures to post up here when I do return this evening but I really hope that everyone is as excited as I am. My parents are going to be going to the wedding as well and my best friend from growing up Erin Goodman Silver as well. Erin just recently got married last month. All my besties are growing up on me! I can't believe it.

When I get back tonight my sweet husband will be home from the App vs. ECU game at ECU. Pray that the Mountaineers win their opening season game! Woohoo go APPPPPPPPPPP!!!! I am truly an Appalachian fan now I guess since I attend some classes there and also Josh works there. I am glad to be though. Matt Daurelio is coming into town today to watch our doggies until we get back and to hang out with us for Labor Day weekend. We are hoping to go to the waterfalls tomorrow so that Matt can get to play around and enjoy something outside up here in the beautiful mountains.

At work this week I got to take care of the little ones in the infant room for just about 45 minutes. It was a fun time because it's always nice to have a break at the end of the day and hold a baby. I know that it's easy and calm to take care of them because they only need a few varying necessities- food, diaper changing, sleep, and love. It's so fascinating to watch them grow. I also have been presented with a new form of insurance that I believe we may try out starting very soon. It's Aflac's disability plan. Apparently it will pay for you to be out while you are on maternity leave in the future. Now it won't let you sign up for it once you are already pregnant. You have to plan in advance for this. I am excited because that would be great to be able to be paid for 6 months after having a child from my insurance company. Hopefully there won't be any strings attached in the process. I'll have to ask more questions before jumping on board of course. Does anybody have any thoughts on Aflac and their plans?

Ashley Furniture and our Company

Our furniture should be in very soon. We are getting excited. We got to the store and decided to not only order the chest and the bed but also the dresser and the nighstand as well. I'm so excited. I will post pictures along with the blog as soon as the furniture does arrive to our house in Boone, NC. Get excited!

This past weekend Lindsay, John, and Matt came to visit. Friday we just relaxed and went to dinner at Mellow Mushroom in Blowing Rock since the one in Boone had an 88 rating. That night we were all so tired that we just fell right asleep. Saturday we got up and relaxed and then decided to go run some errands such as go to the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis. We ate lunch at a little place called Watauga Farm Diner. Then we came back to the house and met Matt. We went to Fanfest and then went walking around the greenway with the dogs. The dogs enjoyed this and even saw a snake on the path. This was exciting more to us than them. Then we went back to the house and got ready and went to eat at The Mountain House. This is one of my favorite restaurants along with Lindsay's favorite as well. John and Matt weren't too happy about it though. I am not quite sure why they disliked it so much but definitely a different choice would have been more sufficient. Josh got home from working the scrimmage game at Fanfest and we played continuous card games all night long. I believe that I didn't go to bed until like 3 in the morning which is way later than I have been used to lately. We laughed until our sides hurt though that is for sure. I can't wait to visit with all of them again.

Our New Bedroom Furniture- Coming Soon

We have decided to buy a new dresser and bed. This bed will include the head board and the foot board. It is really nice and I will show you a picture of our new purchases to be. The dresser that we have in our room now will be moved to the guest bedroom. Then we are getting a new mattress to go in the guest bedroom. Then we'll move our frame over to that bed and then put the new bed in our room and the new dresser to match as well. Get excited!

Erin and Michael's wedding in Fredericksburg, VA

My sweet little best friend Erin Marie Goodman is now Erin Goodman Silver. I know that the Marie will always be there but just she is doing just as I did with Alice Marie Hamrick Porter turning into Alice Hamrick Porter. I am so glad that Miss Erin is happy. I think that she looked absolutely beautiful and the weekend couldn't have gone more perfect. If there were any flaws at all I couldn't tell one bit. There were just the right amount of people and perfect amount of family. I know that she is glad to have the rest of her life to get settled into their farm and be the happiest wife in the world. I am glad that my maid of honor has turned herself into a happy wife. I know that they are having a great time in Jamaica as I type.
